Logan Hone

About:

Logan Hone is a multi-instrumentalist musician and absolute music lover. His performances have been described as "crazy positive" and "effervescent". He is best known for his magnetic joy, effortless musical flow, and fantastic dance moves while performing on saxophone and flute.

He currently performs his feel-good music as an enthusiastic solo act & with a sensational band. His many creative, original projects have included the 2020 instant-classic album "Feel-Good Instrumental Music!", leading the heavy hitting avant-rollercoaster-jazz-n-roll band Similar Fashion (2014-2019), as well as directing an all-ages, all-skill-levels Community Band at Art in the Park since 2018.

He has collaborated with with a heaven’s host of jazz, pop, & experimental musicians including John Carroll Kirby (Blowout, Septet, Conflict), Eddie Chacon (Sundown), Fievel is Glauque, Christian Asplund, & John C. Reilly.

Pitchfork wrote that "there’s a palpable exuberance to his style", "Slug Magazine called his music “an exhilarating and sugar-coated ride”, and KFJC said his music "evoke(s)... the joy of living in general."

Originally from Sacramento, he grew up in a musical Mormon family and fell in love with saxophone, drums, jazz, & picked up a few other instruments before moving to Utah at the age of 13. In Utah, he immersed himself in the jazz & all-ages indie scenes, making bands and records with friends during highschool. He studied jazz at Snow College for 4 years where he transcribed jazz solos and started a fruitful collaboration with experimental composer Christian Asplund, when they presented a weekly performance series of fresh, creative music called Avant GaRAWge. In 2014, he moved to Los Angeles to attend CalArts for one glorious year of improvisation, composition, gamelan, and learning to circular breathe. After graduating, he left the Mormon church and has spent the last 10 years living a musical life in Los Angeles -- actively participating in the DIY creative music scene, making project after project, working as a session musician, fascilitating the Community Band at Art in the Park, and living in love & creativity with his partner Jessica Li & (now) their 2 children.
