Full Bio

Logan Hone is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, and bandleader. At the center of his music is a distinctive and deeply personal approach to alto saxophone. He is also well known as a pied piper of flute and plays many instruments with unmistakable personality. His original music centers around joy-forward instrumentalism, imaginative music making, & full-bodied musical enthusiasm. He has released many albums and created a wide range of original projects across solo recordings, bands, and community music-making.

His newest music includes two upcoming releases with WRWTFWW Records: a reissue of Dance of Delight and Feeling Fireworks!, an explosive album of original music for a shimmering ensemble of longtime collaborators, out digitally October 2, 2026 with vinyl to follow.

Logan’s recording work is extensive and includes collaborations with John Carroll Kirby, Eddie Chacon, Fievel Is Glauque, and many others. His collaboration with Kirby has been particularly vibrant, spanning Conflict, Septet, Blowout, and The Luckiest Man in America OST. Blowout won the 2024 Libera Award for Best Jazz Record, and Pitchfork wrote that Logan’s flute playing “steals the show throughout the album,” praising the “palpable exuberance” of his style. He has also collaborated with Pearl & the Oysters, Gregory Uhlmann, Christian Asplund, Booker Stardrum, It Foot It Ears, Father John Misty, Jerry Paper, Bat for Lashes, John C. Reilly, & many more.

For eight years, Logan created & directed Community Band at Art in the Park LA, making arrangements for more than 100 tunes and leading a weekly ensemble of musicians of different ages and experience levels.

An ex-Mormon from Sacramento, Logan grew up in a musical family and fell in love with jazz before moving with his family to Utah at age 13. There, he became immersed in a nurturing all-ages music scene and learned to self-produce albums with friends. He spent four years at Snow College studying jazz with Willie Applewhite in its Juilliard-affiliated program, all the while making his own DIY music projects.

In Utah, Logan also became involved with composer Christian Asplund and the Avant GaRawge, a vibrant experimental music community that became an important period of musical growth and experimentation. That experience helped catapult him to Los Angeles, where he spent one incredible year at CalArts collaborating, playing gamelan, and getting freaky on the saxophone.

That was the beginning of 12 years of music-making in Los Angeles as a bandleader, collaborator, sideman, woodwindist for hire, and prolific maker of his own musical worlds. He recently relocated with his family to Portland, Oregon.

“One of the most authentic records I’ve heard in a while.”

Musically Proper

“Wow, I didn’t realize that was a thing—just musicians who, like, make the whole room smile because what they’re doing is actually funny... but then he’s killing as a musician also.”

Shabaka Hutchings, Bandcamp Radio
